Welcome to the website of the Family Practice Residency Program (FPRP) of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The FPRP is a pioneer training program in the field of family medicine in the Middle East. It was established in 1979 and is designed to develop the manpower and future leaders of the Family Medicine in the Kingdom. |
The program is the first training program for Family Medicine in the Arab World to be recognized by the Arab Board Council of Family and Community Medicine in 1989. The FPRP was modified to four years of training in 1996. An affiliation with the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) and The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) was started in 1996. Our training program is based on self-learning, problem-based and community oriented curriculum that stimulates personal growth, and building a fund of knowledge, skills and attitudes among trainees. Year after year, our trainees are among the best residents, they bring to the program their curiosity and desire to grow as independent Family Physicians. The program provide them with most update curricula possible in Family Medicine that encourage their growth in the challenging medical environment. During all four years of training, all trainees are engaged in different educational activities consisting of hospital ward rounds, clinical bedside teachings, case discussions, journal clubs, and, an integrated core content series of lectures, seminars and workshops. A continuous evaluation of the trainees is a unique feature to the program throughout the four years of training to ensure adequacy of teaching and proper performance of trainees. The evaluation take place upon completion of each rotation by the tutors and the training instructors. The faculty of the program are ambitious to see a continuous improvement in the quality of program and an increase in the number of Bahrainis becoming family physicians in both the public and private sector in the Kingdom.
Thank you for visiting our website and we hope you have found valuable information about Family Medicine training in the Kingdom, FPRP past achievements, current and future projects. Finally, our gratitude goes to all those who helped us in achieving our mission. |
